Attendance Policy: Attendance in class is required. You will be allowed 4 unexcused absences during the semester. You will be penalized one grade notch (e.g. from B to B-) for your fifth absence and one grade notch for each increment of 4 classes, or a portion thereof, that you miss from that point forward. Failure to attend class on quiz dates will also affect your Quiz Average.

Technology requirements: Students are required to have: (1) A computer with reliable internet connection (2) A working webcam and working audio (3) A scanning app such as AdobeScan or CamScanner (4) Access to Zoom and Canvas.

Review Quiz: There is a Review Quiz on pre-algebra scheduled on Wednesday, June 24. This quiz contains material you should have had before. If you have difficulty with this review material, it indicates that you do not have enough background to continue in Math 1021 and you may want to take Math 0702. During the first few days of the semester, the Math Department can help you switch from Math 1021 to Math 0702. If you wish to do this, please contact Dr. Boris Datskovsky at bdats@temple.edu.

Weekly In-Class Quizzes: Two short quizzes will be given every week, dates set by instructor. Each quiz will consist of 4-5 problems based on the homework problems assigned that week. When computing your overall quiz average, the lowest two quiz scores will be dropped. (If 8 quizzes or less are given, the lowest quiz score will be dropped). No makeup quizzes will be given. Missed quizzes will receive a score of zero and are to be counted among the dropped score(s).

Homework Assignments: You can find the list of the sections that will be covered and the corresponding homework problems on the course web page listed above. Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. Each exercise represents a typical type of problem that you are expected to solve. If a certain type of problem gives you difficulty, you should get help from your instructor or at the tutoring center and try more exercises of that type until you understand the concept. It is your responsibility to make sure you are doing these problems correctly by checking your answers in the back of the textbook (for the odd-numbered problems) and on the course webpage (for the even-numbered problems), and it is very important that you do them in order to get sufficient practice.

Make Up Policy: There are no make ups available for online tests or quizzes.

Calculator Policy: NO CALCULATORS may be used for any quiz or test.

Academic Honesty: We have a zero tolerance policy towards cheating. Students caught cheating on a problem in a test (receiving outside help, using unauthorized resources or devices such as calculators, online etc.) will receive a score of 0 for the entire test.

Canvas: Canvas will be used extensively in this course, so please plan to check our course page daily. You will be responsible for completing any assignments, quizzes, or homework by their assigned due date in Canvas. Please note that the weighting of our course assessments cannot be accurately tracked in Canvas, so your cumulative grade in Canvas will NOT be accurate.

Any student who has a need for accommodations based on the impact of a documented disability or medical condition should contact Disability Resources and Services (DRS) in 100 Ritter Annex (drs@temple.edu; 215-204-1280) to request accommodations and learn more about the resources available to you. If you have a DRS accommodation letter to share with me, or you would like to discuss your accommodations, please contact me as soon as practical. I will work with you and with DRS to coordinate reasonable accommodations for all students with documented disabilities. All discussions related to your accommodations will be confidential.

Freedom to teach and freedom to learn are inseparable facets of academic freedom. The University has adopted a policy on Student and Faculty Academic Rights and Responsibilities (Policy # 03.70.02) which can be accessed here.

Students will be charged for a course unless dropped by the Drop/Add deadline date. Check the University calendar for exact dates.

During the Drop/Add period, students may drop a course with no record of the class appearing on their transcript. Students are not financially responsible for any courses dropped during this period. In the following weeks prior to or on the withdrawal date students may withdraw from a course with the grade of "W" appearing on their transcript. After the withdrawal date students may not withdraw from courses. Check the University Calendar (Opens in new tab/window) for exact dates. See the full policy by clicking here. The grade "I" (an "incomplete") is only given if students cannot complete the course work due to circumstances beyond their control. It is necessary for the student to have completed the majority of the course work with a passing average and to sign an incomplete contract which clearly states what is left for the student to do and the deadline by which the work must be completed. The incomplete contract must also include a default grade that will be used in case the "I" grade is not resolved by the agreed deadline. See the full policy by clicking here.
