Course: Mathematics 8041.002.
Course Title: Real Analysis I.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of functions on real variables and Euclidean topology, sequences of functions, Riemann integration.
Textbook: Measure and Integral: An Introduction to Real Analysis, 2nd Edition by Wheeden and Zygmund, Chapman and Hall/CRC (2015), ISBN: 9781498702898.
Course Goals: To teach core topics in real analysis. The course covers topics typically tested on the Ph.D. Examination in Real Analysis.
Topics Covered: Functions of bounded variation, Riemann-Stieltjes integral, outer measure, Lebesgue measure, measurable functions, Lebesgue integral, repeated integration.
Course Grading: The corse grade will be based on weekly homework (20%), two midterm tests (25% each) and a final exam (30%).
Exam Dates: TBA.

In the following weeks prior to or on the withdrawal date students may withdraw from a course with the grade of "W" appearing on their transcript. The grade "I" (an "incomplete") is only given if students cannot complete the course work due to circumstances beyond their control. It is necessary for the student to have completed the majority of the course work with a passing average and to sign an incomplete contract which clearly states what is left for the student to do and the deadline by which the work must be completed. The incomplete contract must also include a default grade that will be used in case the "I" grade is not resolved by the agreed deadline. See the full policy by clicking here.
