Course: Mathematics 2101.002.
Course Title: Linear Algebra.
Time: MWF 12:00 - 12:50.

Prerequisites: A grade of C or higher in Math 1042, Calculus II, or transfer credit for Math 1042.
Textbook: Howard Anton, Elementary Linear Algebra, Third Ed., Wiley 1981.
Course Goals: To learn introductory linear algebra.
Topics Covered: Systems of linear equations, matrix algebra, vector spaces, inner products, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
Course Grading: Homework/Quizzes: 12%, Test 1: 26%, Test 2: 26%, Comprehensive Final Exam: 36%.
Exam Dates: Test 1 - Wednesday, October 9, Test 2 - Friday, November 15, Final - Wednesday, December 18 at 10:30-12:30. All the exams will be held in the regular classroom.
Attendance Policy: Attendance is required and will be taken at the beginning of each class. Students who miss 6-11 classes without an excuse will have their grades lowered by one notch (e.g., from B to B-). Those who miss 12-17 classes without an excuse will have their grades lowered by two notches, etc.
Calculator Policy: No calculator or cheat sheets will be allowed on any exams or quizzes.
Make Up Policy: Make ups of exams will only be given in cases of DOCUMENTED EMERGENCIES (sickness, car accident, a death in the family, etc.) It is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor. DOCUMENTATION OF EMERGENCY IS REQUIRED. ALL MAKE UPS MUST BE TAKEN WITHIN TWO DAYS OF THE TEST DATE.
Letter Grades: 93-100 A, 90-92 A-, 87-89 B+, 83-86 B, 80-82 B-, 77-79 C+, 73-76 C, 70-72 C-, 65-69 D+, 55-64 D, 50-54 D-, 0-49 F.
Quizzes: There will be a 20-25 min. quiz every week (when there is no midterm). Each quiz will consist of 4-5 problems similar to the ones assigned from the textbook. There will be no make up quizzes. The lowest score for the quizzes will be dropped.
Exam Security Policy: Under no circumstances is the use of personal electronic devices such as phones, computers, smart watches, etc., allowed during exams. All such items must be stowed away and out of sight for the duration of the exam. Any student found with such a device during an exam will not be allowed to complete the test, will receive a score of ZERO for the test, and will be reported to the Student Code of Conduct Board. In addition, under no circumstances, will students be allowed to bring in any kind of papers for use during the exam. Should a student need extra paper during a test, the proctor will provide it. Any student found using papers that they themselves brought into the exam will not be allowed to complete the test, will receive a score of ZERO for the test, and will be reported to the Student Code of Conduct Board.
No phones in class!: Use of cell phones in class in any way is strictly prohibited. Cell phones must be out of sight and silent. Using a phone during lecture will result in marking you absent for the day.

During the Drop/Add period, students may drop a course with no record of the class appearing on their transcript. Students are not financially responsible for any courses dropped during this period. In the following weeks prior to or on the withdrawal date students may withdraw from a course with the grade of "W" appearing on their transcript. The grade "I" (an "incomplete") is only given if students cannot complete the course work due to circumstances beyond their control. It is necessary for the student to have completed the majority of the course work with a passing average and to sign an incomplete contract which clearly states what is left for the student to do and the deadline by which the work must be completed.
