Prerequisites: Math 1042 with a grade of C or better, or equivalent transfer credit, co-requisite Math 2043.

Textbook: William E. Boyce and Richard C. Di Prima, Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems, 10th edition, John Wiley & Sons, 2012. IMPORTANT: you need to have access to WebAssign because part of your homework will be assigned there and be graded. There is an e-book in WebAssign so you do not have to purchase a hardcopy of textbook. To enroll WebAssign, go to http://webassign.net. The cost for a single term is \$90.70 + any taxes; for a multi term \$121.00 + any taxes. You also need a Class Key that will be provided by your instructor. Course Goals: To help prepare students learn basic concepts, techniques, and applications of ordinary differential equations.

Topics Covered: First order differential equations, second and higher order linear differential equations, Laplace transforms, system of first order equations.

Course Grading: Your course grade will be computed according to the following scheme: Homework assigned on WA - 8%, Quiz Average - 10%, Exam 1 - 24%, Exam 2 - 24%, Final Exam - 34%.

Exam Dates: We will have two common midterms: Test 1: Monday, February 19, from 5:50 PM to 7:20 PM (the room to be announced); Test 2: Monday, April 9, from 5:50 PM to 7:20 PM (the room to be announced), and the comprehensive common Final Exam: Tuesday, May 8, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM (the room to be announced).

Attendance Policy: Attendance is required. Students who miss 4-7 classes will have their grades lowered by one notch (e.g., from B to B-). Those who miss 8-11 classes will have their grades lowered by two notches, etc.

Homework: Homework will be regularly assigned from the textbook. A part of that assigned homework you will do using the WA (WebAssign). It will be graded by the computer. Your result for the WA part of the homework will be counted as 8% of your Course Average.

Quizzes: THIS IS MY POLICY THAT IS GOOD FOR BOTH MWF AND TTH CLASSES; YOU MAY USE IT OR ENTER YOURS: There will be a 15-40 min. weekly or biweekly quiz. Quizzes will be based on the assigned homework. There will be no make up quizzes.

Make Up Policy: Make ups will only be given in cases of DOCUMENTED EMERGENCIES (sickness, car accident, a death in the family, etc.) It is the student's responsibility to contact me RIGHT AWAY, preferably by e-mail, in case of a missed exam or quiz. No make ups will be given once the graded tests or quizzes are returned.

Calculator Policy: No calculators will be allowed on any exams or quizzes. Student should solve most homework problems without using a calculator.

Letter Grades: 93-100 A, 9-92 A-, 87-89 B+, 83-86 B, 80-82 B-, 77-79 C+, 73-76 C, 70-72 C-, 65-69 D+, 55-64 D, 50-54 D-, 0-49 F.

Electronic Devices Policy: All electronic devices must be turned off and put away for the duration of the class.

Exam Security Policy: We have a zero tolerance policy for cheating on the tests. Any student caught cheating will receive a score of 0 on the test and will be reported to the Student Code of Conduct Board. All electronic devices such as cell phones, computers, or smart watches items must be turned off and stowed away and out of sight for the duration of the exam. Any student found with such a device during an exam will not be allowed to complete the test and will receive a score of 0 for the test, and will be reported to the Student Code of Conduct Board. In addition, under no circumstances, will students be allowed to bring in any kind of papers for use during the exam. Should a student need extra paper during a test, he/she should ask the instructor to provide it. Any student found using papers that they themselves brought into the exam will not be allowed to complete the exam and will receive a score of 0 for the test.

Students will be charged for a course unless dropped by the Drop/Add deadline date. Check the University calendar for exact dates.

During the Drop/Add period, students may drop a course with no record of the class appearing on their transcript. Students are not financially responsible for any courses dropped during this period. In the following weeks prior to or on the withdrawal date students may withdraw from a course with the grade of "W" appearing on their transcript. The grade "I" (an "incomplete") is only given if students cannot complete the course work due to circumstances beyond their control. It is necessary for the student to have completed the majority of the course work with a passing average and to sign an incomplete contract which clearly states what is left for the student to do and the deadline by which the work must be completed.
