Prerequisites: Math placement or a grade of C or higher in Math 1022 (C074) or transfer credit for Math 1022 (C074).
Textbook: Calculus: Early Transcendentals, by James Stewart; 7th Edition, Brooks Cole. Important: in addition to the printed textbook you need to have access to WebAssign because part of your homework may be assigned there. Note: you can buy the bundle: Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 7th + Enhanced WebAssign Homework and eBook LOE Printed Access Card for Multi Term Math and Science directly from the publisher at http://www.cengagebrain.com/ micro/1-19109V6 (for 145 dollars) or from the Temple bookstore (for 193.35 dollars). The stand alone Enhanced WebAssign Homework with eBook LOE Printed Access Card for Multi Term Math and Science (which does not contain a printed textbook, but lets you access the electronic version of the textbook) can be purchased directly from the publisher (for $95) using the link above.
Course Goals: To learn the concepts and techniques of differential calculus.
Topics Covered: Limits and continuity, differentiation, application of derivatives to optimization and graphing, antiderivatives.
Course Grading: Homework/Quizzes: 15%, Test 1: 25%, Test 2: 25%, Comprehensive Final Exam: 35%.
Exam Dates: Test 1 - Tuesday, July 22, Test 2 - Wednesday, August 6, Final - Friday, August 15.
Attendance Policy: Attendance is required. Students who miss more than 3 classes without an excuse will have their grades lowered by one notch (e.g., from B to B-). Those who miss more than 6 classes will have their grades lowered by two notches, etc.
Quizzes: You will have in class quiz on every Monday and wednesday, except the week of the test. That is,You will have two quizzes during a week without a test and one during a week with a test.
Calculator Policy: No calculators will be allowed on any exams or in-class quizzes.
Make Up Test Policy: Make ups will only be given in cases of DOCUMENTED EMERGENCIES (sickness, car accident, a death in the family, etc.) It is the student's responsibility to contact his/her instructor RIGHT AWAY, preferably by e-mail, in case of a missed exam. All make ups must be taken within two days of the missed test. No make ups will be given once the graded tests are returned.
Make Up Quiz Policy: If you cannot take a quiz, you must contact me ASAP to arrange make-up quiz and make-up quiz must be taken in the next class day during my office hour. Note: A student can get AT MOST ONE MAKE-UP QUIZ.
Letter Grades: 93-100 A, 9-92 A-, 87-89 B+, 83-86 B, 80-82 B-, 77-79 C+, 73-76 C, 70-72 C-, 65-69 D+, 55-64 D, 50-54 D-, 0-49 F.
Cell phone & Electronic Devices: All cell phones & electronic devices must be TURNED OFF(or)PUT ON VIBRATE MODE. Do not answer your cell phone during your class sessions. TEXTING IS PROHIBITED DURING CLASS.

Students will be charged for a course unless a withdrawal form is processed by a registration office of the University by the Drop/Add deadline date given below. For this semester, the crucial dates are as follows:

• The first day of classes is Monday, July 7.
• The last day to drop/add (tuition refund available) is Friday, July 18.
• The last day to withdraw (no refund) is Monday, August 4.
• The last day of classes is Saturday, August 16.

During the first two weeks of the fall or spring semester or summer sessions, students may withdraw from a course with no record of the class appearing on the transcript. In weeks three through nine of the fall or spring semester, or during weeks three and four of summer sessions, the student may withdraw with the advisor's permission. The course will be recorded on the transcript with the instructor's notation of "W," indicating that the student withdrew. After week nine of the fall or spring semester, or week four of summer sessions, students may not withdraw from courses. No student may withdraw from more than five courses during the duration of his/her studies to earn a bachelor's degree. A student may not withdraw from the same course more than once. Students who miss the final exam and do not make alternative arrangements before the grades are turned in will be graded F.

The grade I (an "incomplete") is reserved for extreme circumstances. It is necessary to have completed almost all of the course with a passing average and to file an incomplete contract specifying what is left for you to do. To be eligible for an I grade you need a good reason and you should have missed not more than 25% of the first nine weeks of classes. If approved by the Mathematics Department chair and the CST Dean's office, the incomplete contract must include a default grade that will be used in case the I grade is not resolved within 12 months.
