Prerequisites: Basic Algebra or equivalent to Math 0701.
Textbook: Lipschutz and Schiller: Introduction to Probability and Statistics.
Course Goals: to introduce and to apply the basic concepts of probability and statistics.
Topics Covered: Chapters 1-8, with some sections skipped. Part of chapter 9 will be covered, if time permit.
Course Grading: There will be 8 quizzes(10-20 minutes), 2 tests and a final. The grading for this course will be as follows : Quizzes: 16%, Tests 1 and 2: each for 26%, Final(cumulative) 32%. Numeric-To-Letter-Grade Scale: 93-100 A, 90-92 A-, 87-89 B+, 83-86 B, 80-82 B-, 77-79 C+, 73-76 C, 70-72 C-, 65-69 D+, 55-64 D, 50-54 D-, 0-49 F.
Exam Dates: Quiz#1-Thurs, July 11; Quiz#2-Tues,July 16; Quiz#3-Thurs,July 18; TEST#1-Tuesday, July 23; Quiz#4-Thurs, July 25; Quiz#5-Tues, July 30; Quiz#6-Thurs, Aug 1; Quiz#7-Tues, Aug 6; TEST#2-Thursday, August 8; Quiz#8-Tues, Aug 13; Cumulative FINAL: THURSDAY, AUGUST 15.
Attendance Policy: Attendance will be taken regularly. Failure to attend class during quiz dates will also affect your Quiz Average. As an incentive to attend class, three additional points for perfect attendance, two additional points for one absence, and one additional point for two absences will be added to your final course average. Students are responsible for all work missed due to absence. Note: I will mark as ABSENCE FOR STUDENTS who come to class MORE THAN 20 MINUTES LATE. I will also mark as ABSENCE FOR STUDENTS who sit through my class only for 15 minutes.
Homeworks: Homeworks will be assigned regularly. Although I do not collect your HW, you should attempt all of your assigned HW problems.
Make-up test policy: NO MAKE-UP QUIZZES WILL BE GIVEN under any circumstances. However, one of your lowest quiz scores will be dropped. If you miss a quiz, you will receive a score of zero for that quiz and that score will be the dropped quiz scores. If an emergency arises and you cannot attend a test, you should contact me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to alert me to the situation so that we can make other arrangements. DOCUMENTATION OF THE EMERGENCY IS REQUIRED and any make-up test must be taken DURING THAT EXAM WEEK / YOUR NEXT CLASS DAY.

Cell phone Policy: All cell phones must be turned OFF during class sessions. Texting is prohibited during class. If a cell phone is answered during a test, it will result in an automatic failure of the test.
Appropriate class room behaviour: Please BE ON TIME for class. It is distracting to other students when people arrive late. PLEASE DO NOT HAVE A DISCUSSTION OR CONVERSATION WITH YOUR CLASSMATES DURING CLASS TIME. ( I will asked you to leave the class if you are doing so and if I need to ask you to leave the class more than three times, I will report you name to the department).
Calculator Policy: You may need non-graphic scientific calculator (I recommend TI-30X IIS).

Students will be charged for a course unless a withdrawal form is processed by a registration office of the University by the Drop/Add deadline date given below. For this semester, the crucial dates are as follows:

During the first two weeks of the fall or spring semester or summer sessions, students may withdraw from a course with no record of the class appearing on the transcript. In weeks three through nine of the fall or spring semester, or during weeks three and four of summer sessions, the student may withdraw with the advisor's permission. The course will be recorded on the transcript with the instructor's notation of "W," indicating that the student withdrew. After week nine of the fall or spring semester, or week four of summer sessions, students may not withdraw from courses. No student may withdraw from more than five courses during the duration of his/her studies to earn a bachelor's degree. A student may not withdraw from the same course more than once. Students who miss the final exam and do not make alternative arrangements before the grades are turned in will be graded F.

The grade I (an "incomplete") is reserved for extreme circumstances. It is necessary to have completed almost all of the course with a passing average and to file an incomplete contract specifying what is left for you to do. To be eligible for an I grade you need a good reason and you should have missed not more than 25% of the first nine weeks of classes. If approved by the Mathematics Department chair and the CST Dean's office, the incomplete contract must include a default grade that will be used in case the I grade is not resolved within 12 months.
