Prerequisites: A math placement test score of 9-14-9 or higher, a grade of C or higher in Math 1022 (C074), or transfer credit for Math 1022 (C074).
Textbook: Calculus: Early Transcendentals, by James Stewart; 7th Edition, Brooks Cole. Important: in addition to the printed textbook you need to have access to WebAssign because part of your homework will be assigned there. Note: you can buy the bundle: Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 7th + Enhanced WebAssign Homework and eBook LOE Printed Access Card for Multi Term Math and Science directly from the publisher at http://www.cengagebrain.com/micro/1-19109V6 (for $145) or from the Temple bookstore (for $193). The stand alone access to WebAssign (Enhanced WebAssign Multi Term LOE Instant Access for Calculus, 1st Edition) which does not contain a printed textbook, but lets you access the electronic version of the textbook, can be purchased (for $95) directly from the publisher using the link http://www.cengagebrain.com/shop/search/9781285858258. Please DO NOT buy any USED books/bundles, they will not let you access WebAssign because the WebAssign codes ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE.
Course Goals: To learn the concepts and techniques of differential calculus.
Topics Covered: Limits and continuity, differentiation, application of derivatives to optimization and graphing, antiderivatives.
Course Grading: Review Quiz: 2%, Quiz on Derivatives: 2%, Online Homework: 4%, Quizzes/HW: 10%, Test 1: 24%, Test 2: 24%, Comprehensive Final Exam: 34%.
Exam Dates: Test 1 - Tuesday, October 1, (5:50 - 7:20 pm); Test 2 - Tuesday, November 12, (5:50 - 7:20 pm); Final Exam - Monday, December 9, (3:30 - 5:30 pm). Exam rooms will be announced at least one week in advance of the exam.
Attendance Policy: Attendance is required. Students who miss more than 6 classes without an excuse will have their grades lowered by one notch (e.g., from B to B-). Those who miss more than 12 classes will have their grades lowered by two notches, etc.
Final Exam: Final Exam - Monday, December 9, (3:30 - 5:30 pm). Exam rooms will be announced at least one week in advance of the exam. Important: please note that if you miss the final exam and do not make alternative arrangements before the grades are turned in, your grade for the course will be F.
Common Review Quiz: Review Quiz will be given on WebAssign during the first week of class. It will be based on precalculus material and its result will be counted as 2% of the grade for the course. Students who perform poorly on the Review Quiz may be moved to Math 1022, Precalculus.
Common Quiz on Derivatives: Quiz on Derivatives will be given in class during the 8th or 9th week of the semester (the exact date will be announced after Test 1). Its result will be counted as 2% of the grade for the course.
Homework: A list of homework problems from the textbook will be distributed; a certain (specified) part of the homework assignments you will need to do on WebAssign.
Quizzes: There will be a 20-25 min. quiz every Friday. Each quiz will consist of 4-5 problems similar to the ones assigned from the textbook. There will be no make up quizzes. The lowest two scores for the quizzes given before Test 2, will be dropped.
Calculators: NO CALCULATORS will be allowed on any exams or in-class quizzes.
Make Up Policy: Make ups of exams will only be given in cases of DOCUMENTED EMERGENCIES (sickness, car accident, a death in the family, etc.) It is the student's responsibility to contact his/her instructor RIGHT AWAY, preferably by e-mail, in the case of a missed exam. DOCUMENTATION OF EMERGENCY IS REQUIRED. ALL MAKE UPS MUST BE TAKEN WITHIN TWO DAYS OF THE TEST DATE.

Letter Grades: 93-100 A, 90-92 A-, 87-89 B+, 83-86 B, 80-82 B-, 77-79 C+, 73-76 C, 70-72 C-, 65-69 D+, 55-64 D, 50-54 D-, 0-49 F.

Students will be charged for a course unless a withdrawal form is processed by a registration office of the University by the Drop/Add deadline date given below. For this semester, the crucial dates are as follows:

• The first day of classes is Monday, August 26.
• Labor Day is Monday, September 2.
• The last day to drop/add (tuition refund available) is Monday, September 9.
• Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 28.
• The last day to withdraw (no refund) is Tuesday, October 22.
• The last day of classes is Wednesday, December 4.

During the first two weeks of the fall or spring semester or summer sessions, students may withdraw from a course with no record of the class appearing on the transcript. In weeks three through nine of the fall or spring semester, or during weeks three and four of summer sessions, the student may withdraw with the advisor's permission. The course will be recorded on the transcript with the instructor's notation of "W," indicating that the student withdrew. After week nine of the fall or spring semester, or week four of summer sessions, students may not withdraw from courses. No student may withdraw from more than five courses during the duration of his/her studies to earn a bachelor's degree. A student may not withdraw from the same course more than once. Students who miss the final exam and do not make alternative arrangements before the grades are turned in will be graded F.

The grade I (an "incomplete") is reserved for extreme circumstances. It is necessary to have completed almost all of the course with a passing average and to file an incomplete contract specifying what is left for you to do. To be eligible for an I grade you need a good reason and you should have missed not more than 25% of the first nine weeks of classes. If approved by the Mathematics Department chair and the CST Dean's office, the incomplete contract must include a default grade that will be used in case the I grade is not resolved within 12 months.
