Course Title: Linear Algebra with a Lab.

Prerequisites: Prerequisite: Math 1042 with a grade of C or higher or transfer credit for Math 1042. Co-Requisite: Math 2043.
Textbook: Text book will be available free in pdf format and can be downloaded by chapter.
Course Goals: : Provide a foundation for topics in linear algebra together with applications. Integrate the use of MATLAB software within course topics and applications.
Topics Covered: Matrices, matrix algebra, matrix transformations, linear systems of equations, lines of best fit, the determinant, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, vector spaces, inner product, inner product spaces, orthogonal sets, and linear transformations. Applications.
Course Grading: Course Grading: A(100-92), A- (91-90),B+(89-88), B(87-82), B-(81-80),C+(79-78), C(77-72), C-(71-70), D+(69-68), D(67-62), D-(61-60), F – below 60%.
Exam Dates: To be announced; Final exam is Tuesday Dec. 11 from 10:30-12:30.
Attendance Policy: Attendance at lecture is required.
OFFICE HOURS: To be announced when my teaching schedule is determined.
GRADING: Homework/quizzes/participation 20% Exams 80% Two exams and a final.
POLICIES: Late homework is unacceptable. No make-ups. No cell phones, No texting, No ipods/MP3 players, No ear buds/head phones, ETC. in class.
HOMEWORK: "Naked numbers are not acceptable." Solutions must include the steps used to arrive at your answer together with explanations describing the problem, your solution technique, and procedural details.
MATLAB SOFTWARE: : The MATLAB software will be available as a free download so it can be used on your personal machine. It will also be available in the Tech Center and the Math & Science Resource Center.

Students will be charged for a course unless a withdrawal form is processed by a registration office of the University by the Drop/Add deadline date given below. For this semester, the crucial dates are as follows:

• The first day of classes is Monday, August 27.
• Labor Day is Monday, September 3.
• The last day to drop/add (tuition refund available) is Monday, September 10.
• Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 22.
• The last day to withdraw (no refund) is Tuesday, October 23.
• The last day of classes is Wednesday, December 5.

During the first two weeks of the fall or spring semester or summer sessions, students may withdraw from a course with no record of the class appearing on the transcript. In weeks three through nine of the fall or spring semester, or during weeks three and four of summer sessions, the student may withdraw with the advisor's permission. The course will be recorded on the transcript with the instructor's notation of "W," indicating that the student withdrew. After week nine of the fall or spring semester, or week four of summer sessions, students may not withdraw from courses. No student may withdraw from more than five courses during the duration of his/her studies to earn a bachelor's degree. A student may not withdraw from the same course more than once. Students who miss the final exam and do not make alternative arrangements before the grades are turned in will be graded F.

The grade I (an "incomplete") is reserved for extreme circumstances. It is necessary to have completed almost all of the course with a passing average and to file an incomplete contract specifying what is left for you to do. To be eligible for an I grade you need a good reason and you should have missed not more than 25% of the first nine weeks of classes. If approved by the Mathematics Department chair and the CST Dean's office, the incomplete contract must include a default grade that will be used in case the I grade is not resolved within 12 months.
