We will define the notion of modular groups, modular functions, and in particular, modular forms. We will then look at the space of holomorphic modular forms of weight $k$ over $SL(2, \mathbb{Z})$ and determine bounds for the dimension of this space, following section one of Zagier's Elliptic Modular Forms and Their Applications.
